Bike Locked to Fence

The original purpose of this fence in particular is to prevent people traveling through the area from falling off the edge of a high balcony near the Library Building at Ryerson University. But in this case there is a bike that is locked up to it. I feel this to be a deliberate misuse of the fence. I believe that the owner of the bike is adapting to a shortage of bike racks near the area and also signaling to others that it is his/her bike, so do not touch. I think someone who was paranoid to lose their bike placed it up there because not only is it put out of sight but it also has two locks on it. I can see this being a very common improvisation.

Protection for your bike or protection so you don't fall off the ledge?

Spinning Keys on Fingers

I know we were suppose to venture out but when my mom was spinning the keys on her finger I had to record it. The keys are for the van we were in. On the set of keys though it has a clip on it that my mother had put her finger in and spun it using a little thing called G force. This action was totally subconscious and it was conforming because she used what she had to create an experience or outlet. For me I know I do this improvisation a lot with anything thing that I can spin with my hand, I also believe it is very common between everyone. I guess it is the feeling of it spinning that makes people do it subconsciously, if you are able to do it you will.

Car Keys or Amusement?

Using a Bench and a Chair as a Bed

Usually when one will use a chair and/or a bench to sit on. In this case it was early Monday morning and I found this tried Ryerson student sleeping supporting the bulk of his legs on the bench and his upper chest area over the chair. These objects had created a bed for him and he actually spent a good hour that I was there snoozing away. This improvisation is adapting because he had a feeling of drowsiness and using the objects from his environment he was able to create a sleeping area. I feel that any person would be able to create a bed area from any part of their environment in order to get some shut eye.

Sitting area or bedroom?

Hole in Light Post that has Garbage and Graffiti

I was walking towards Union Station when I noticed that one of the light posts had an opening and people had stuffed something it in. I am sure I do not have to discus the purpose of a light post but I know it was not intended to be a garbage can nor a graffiti canvas but that is the way people will conform if it is in their environment. It could also be an adapting tool because if a garbage can is no where in sight and you are late, you have to stash your garbage somewhere (that is if you are a lazy and cannot hold on to it). And graffiti is going to be anywhere and everywhere a person can paint it. You see this everywhere you walk, people will place garbage anywhere to get their hands free and draw anywhere to get an outlet.

Light Post on the side of the road or Garbage bin/Art Canvas?

Scotch Tape Covering a Locker’s Lock

This is a weird one. I found it while walking through the hall from the RCC building to the Library Building. Locks are not supposed to be covered because it was destroy their purpose to protect the inside of the locker and then open once a code has been sequenced. This is for sure a creative misuse but I am not sure if the owner did this deliberately or it was a prank by some other people. I also see this a signaling because someone is making it known that it is their lock or the lock of someone else. This is not a common practice I’ve never seen anything like it.
