Nicole’s Sign

with 4 comments

What I chose to write on my sign was “Half full or Half empty?” referring to a cup that is drawn on it filled halfway with water. The phrase “Is the glass half full, or half empty” is such a popular saying, and refers to how people see situations – positively or negatively. I think that I will get more people saying that the glass is half full versus half empty, because people don’t usually want to be pessimistic to strangers.

I chose to write “Half full or Half empty” on my sign because I wanted to see what people would say to it. I was interested in how people view situations, whether they are pessimistic or optimistic. I also took into account that people might just say “Half full” because it is the first thing written on the sign.

I did get the response that I expected, because most of the people said that they saw the glass as half full. There were also a lot of people who would just read the sign and ignore it. If I were to do it again, I would try a different location, and maybe write a different saying on it.

  2. my answer depends on if you are
filling it with water = half full or
if you are drinking it = half empty

Loved your idea and I am glad that you got some response. I agree maybe a different busier location.
